The Punjab government has declared that they will officially celebrate the Baisakhi festival.
In her message about Baisakhi, the Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, said Baisakhi reflects Punjab’s rich cultural heritage.
The Chief Minister is happy to celebrate Baisakhi and sends congratulations to everyone. She warmly welcomes Sikh brothers and sisters who come to Punjab for the festivities. Around 3,000 Sikh pilgrims from India have crossed the Wagah border into Pakistan to take part in the three-day Baisakhi Mela celebrations.
They were warmly received by the Evacuee Trust Property Board and the Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee. These pilgrims are anticipated to join the primary event in Hasan Abdal tomorrow.

During their trip, the pilgrims will visit Sikh religious sites such as Nankana Sahib and Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur. On April 21, they will gather at Gurdwara Dera Sahib in Lahore before heading back to India through Wagah on April 22.
Baisakhi signifies the Punjabi New Year, marking the harvesting of the first crop of the Rabi season. Farmers pray for a fruitful harvest and good health. This day is also important in Sikh tradition as the tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh Ji, founded the Khalsa Panth.
