COAS Asim Munir lauds ASP Shehrbano for saving woman from mob- Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir praised Lahore Gulberg Circle Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Syeda Shehr Bano Naqvi for her brave and professional handling of a tense situation.

The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon, when a crowd gathered outside a shop in Lahore’s crowded Ichra Bazaar following an allegation that a woman’s shirt contained Quranic verses, leading to demands for a “blasphemy” charge.

COAS commends ASP’s heroic intervention

ASP Syeda Shehrbano Naqvi visited COAS General Syed Asim Munir at the General Headquarters on Wednesday, as confirmed by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

A video circulated on social media showed the distressed woman hiding in a shop, COAS Asim Munir lauds ASP Shehrbano for saving woman from mob, prompting some police officials to contact their superiors due to the sensitivity of the situation.

During their meeting, COAS General Munir commended ASP Shehrbano’s courageous intervention on February 26, 2024, at Ichra Bazaar, where she successfully rescued a woman wearing a dress with Arabic calligraphy from a mob attack.

Following the intervention, ASP Shehrbano and her team managed to calm the crowd, protect the woman, and transfer her to the police station under tight security. Later, a video emerged showing the woman apologizing alongside religious scholars.

COAS General Munir highlighted the significant role of women in Pakistani society, emphasizing their respect as outlined in both religion and social values. He called for the acknowledgment of women’s contributions to the nation.

The Punjab police chief recommended ASP Naqvi for the Quaid-i-Azam Police Medal (QPM).In a subsequent statement, ISPR confirmed that ASP Shehrbano had met with the COAS at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi. The COAS acknowledged the crucial role Pakistani women play in all spheres of life and emphasized the importance of social harmony and legal recourse.
