Up to Rs. 0.3 Million Monthly Tax Imposed for Using Bore Water in Islamabad. In a recent notification issued by the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI), residents of the federal capital are now obligated to pay taxes for using bore water. The tax rate will be calculated based on the horsepower of the borewell motor.
As water scarcity becomes more prevalent in different areas of Islamabad, residents are increasingly turning to borewells to fulfill their water needs.

Previously, citizens were not taxed for accessing and using government-owned underground water. Up to Rs. 0.3 Million Monthly Tax Imposed for Using Bore Water in Islamabad, However, the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad has recently introduced a tax on the usage of underground water through borewells.
According to the notification, revised water charges will now be applied across various categories, determined by the horsepower of the borewell motor used.
For instance, households utilizing a half-horsepower motor with a one-inch pipe bored will be charged Rs. 1000 per month.

According to the new rules, if households use underground water with a 2-horsepower motor and a 2-inch pipe, they will pay Rs. 2,500 each month. Commercial users will pay Rs. 4,000 monthly.
For people at home:
If they use an 8 to 15-horsepower motor and a 3-inch pipe, they will pay Rs. 10,000 monthly. Commercial users in this group will pay Rs. 15,000 each month.
For domestic users:
If they use a 15 to 30-horsepower motor and a 4-inch pipe, they will pay Rs. 20,000.Commercial users will pay Rs. 25,000 per month.
As per the MCI’s notice: If households use a 40 to 50-horsepower motor and a 6-inch pipe, they will pay Rs. 50,000 monthly. Commercial users will pay Rs 75,000 every month.

For domestic users with a 70 to 100 horsepower motor and an 8-inch pipe, the fee will be Rs. 100,000, while commercial clients will be charged Rs. 150,000 per month.
For those with a 140 to 160 horsepower motor and 9-inch pipes, domestic charges amount to Rs. 200,000, while commercial users will be billed Rs. 300,000 monthly.
