The Punjab government has declared school holidays for the upcoming elections on February 8, 2024. In anticipation of the general elections, the Interim Chief Minister of Punjab, Mohsin Naqvi, announced a four-day holiday for all educational institutions in the province. The Provincial Cabinet has approved the closure of all public and private schools, colleges, and universities in Punjab from February 6 to February 9.
Punjab announces election holidays from Feb 6 to 9
Mohsin Naqvi conveyed this decision through X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Because of the upcoming general elections on 8th February, Provincial Cabinet has approved that all public and private sector schools, colleges, and universities in Punjab will be closed from Feb 6th to Feb 9th.”

In a tweet, the caretaker CM instructed school administrations to start classes at 9:30 am until February 3, after which regular school timings would resume. Earlier, the Caretaker government had extended winter vacations for schools in Punjab until January 9.

The federal government had also declared a national holiday on February 5 (Kashmir Day), followed by election holidays from February 6 to 9. According to a notification from the School Education Department, all schools, both private and public, would resume classes on the 10th of the following month.

Caretaker Chief Minister Punjab Mohsin Naqvi had previously announced winter vacations across Punjab from December 18 to January 1. Election holidays follow the Kashmir holiday, providing a fairly long weekend for students and instructors to relax and prepare for the impending elections. However, the reopening date was later adjusted to January 10. Mohsin Naqvi mentioned that the air quality had improved in the province, leading to the decision not to impose a ban in the upcoming week.
