Plastic bags to be banned in Punjab from June

Plastic bags will soon be banned in Punjab starting from June 6, following orders from the Punjab Chief Minister. This decision aims to combat environmental pollution caused by plastic waste. Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb announced this ban during a meeting held on Wednesday. Additionally, the meeting approved the digitization of the kiln industrial system to improve the Air Quality Index (AQI) in the region.

During the meeting, it was emphasized that a crackdown would be initiated against individuals and businesses contributing to environmental pollution.

Moreover, students were encouraged to establish Environment Climate Change Councils in educational institutions to raise awareness and promote environmental conservation.

CM Punjab Orders a Ban on Plastic Bags in The Province

According to a report from the Environment Protection Department in 2019, Pakistan uses approximately 55 billion plastic bags annually, with the usage rate increasing by 15 percent each year. The report also highlighted the presence of numerous plastic manufacturing units in the country, producing significant amounts of plastic waste on a daily basis.
