The Cabinet Division of Pakistan announced that February 5th, 2024, will be a public holiday for Kashmir Solidarity Day. This day is to support the Kashmiri people who have lived under Indian rule since 1947. Kashmir Solidarity Day, also known as ‘Youm-e-Yakhjehti-e-Kashmir,’ has been observed in Pakistan since 1990. It’s a day to protest against India’s control of part of Kashmir.
When is Kashmir Solidarity Day?
Kashmir, known for its beautiful scenery, is in the northern part of the Indian subcontinent, near the Himalayas. During India’s partition, it was a princely state under British rule. It got divided into three parts, now controlled by India (Jammu and Kashmir), Pakistan (Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan), and China (Aksai Chin).

According to the press release, there will be a one-minute silence at 10:00 am to honor Kashmiri martyrs. Kashmir Solidarity Day is a time to remember the Kashmiri people’s sacrifices in their fight for self-determination.
