FBR Tax Return Last Date 2024 Extended – Islamabad: Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Friday granted a one-month extension for filing the income tax returns for the tax year 2024. On Thursday this week, The FBR Director of Inland Revenue (Operations), Arshad Nawaz Cheema told the members of the advisory group of the Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) Headquarters that the FBR is currently discussing an extension on the level of the Board, but a final determination has not yet been taken in the coming days, he told the meeting.

The decision was made considering the demands of the business world. The announcement was made by the Federal Minister who was recently appointed Finance and Revenue Ishaq Dar in his inaugural press event in Islamabad. In the year 2024, FBR issued Circular No. 16 of 2024 which also extended the date for filing income tax returns for the tax year 2024.

In a letter to the minister of finance, Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) President Muhammad Idrees has requested the government to issue guidelines for the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to allow an extension to extend the deadline from September 30th, 2024 until the 31st of December 2024 for the filing of income tax returns.

In the course of the meeting held within the FTO Office at the FTO Office, the FBR Director of Inland Revenue (Operations) was responding to questions from FTO’s advisory members regarding the complex income tax return form for Tax Year 2024. At the press conference, he announced that the tax collectors authority received Rs685 billion of tax returns in September. “It will definitely be prudent to ask FBR to delay the deadline since there aren’t many returns that have been filed as of yet,” noted Zulfikar Thaver Chairman of the Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME).
