Sindh Energy Minister Nasir Hussain Shah shared some exciting news for people in Karachi who use less than 100 units of electricity. During a press meeting, the minister said they’re planning to give free electricity to those who use up to 100 units.
This plan will use solar power and small grid stations to make it happen. Shah mentioned that the government has set aside money in the budget for solar power and small grid projects, with Rs 5 billion specifically for solar plans.
Good news for power consumers using under 100 units per month
He added that solar panels will be sold at a much lower price, especially helping poor and middle-class folks in the city. The plan includes giving out 200,000 solar panels, with the government paying for 80 percent of the cost and consumers paying the remaining 20 percent.
We’re also starting a program in the budget to sell solar panels at a very low price,” said the energy minister.
“We’ll give two lakh solar panels to poor and middle-class people. The government will cover 80 percent of the cost, and people will pay 20 percent,” Nasir Shah explained. Additionally, Shah announced that they will build solar parks and small grid stations all over Sindh, including Karachi.
K-Electric is facing a financial crisis because many people haven’t paid their bills. This is making it hard for them to maintain the power network.
To tackle this, KE sent letters to important officials like the Sindh Secretary of Finance and the Mayor of Karachi, asking them to pay the overdue electricity bills right away.
