The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has begun delivering 260 million ballot papers across 859 National Assembly and provincial assembly constituencies nationwide as the general election approaches, according to a spokesperson for the oversight body on Sunday. Printing was completed at three government presses, with some papers needing reprinting due to court decisions on candidacy-related petitions.

Preparations for the polls scheduled on February 8th are progressing swiftly, according to an ECP spokesperson. Currently, three government press institutes are engaged in printing the ballot papers, with the process proceeding satisfactorily. Printing began on January 16th after the allocation of election symbols by returning officers and is expected to conclude by February 2nd.

This election cycle sees a significant increase from 2018, with 2,170 tons of paper used for printing. The larger number of printed ballot papers, totaling 260 million for the February 8 vote, represents a 40 million increase from the previous election, highlighting the scale and importance of the upcoming electoral process.
Despite time constraints and challenges, the ECP fulfilled its responsibility by completing the printing of ballot papers on schedule. The delivery process of ballot papers has commenced nationwide and is expected to be completed by tomorrow.
ECP wraps up printing of ballot papers
The ECP has also established the Central Control and Monitoring Centre to address any election-related complaints. Officials reported that out of 221 complaints received, 198 have been resolved.
Whether it’s a matter of violating the election code of conduct or complaints related to civic content, ECP staff are actively addressing issues on a daily basis since December 26.

The election results will be relayed through the Election Management System (EMS). Complaints about the EMS have been received from some returning officers (ROs), and their issues are being addressed accordingly.
